Why agencies should consider hiring apprentices.

This week marks National Apprenticeship Week, a time for agencies to explore the incredible benefits of employing apprentices as a means to nurture and develop junior staff, filling crucial skills gaps while offering a viable alternative to internships. Through a combination of on-the-job experience and training from dedicated apprenticeship providers, apprenticeships enable individuals to thrive and agencies to flourish.
1. Comprehensive Qualifications:
Apprenticeship courses cover a wide range of subjects, offering qualifications at various levels. Ranging from level 2 (equivalent to GCSE) to level 7 (equivalent to a master’s degree), these courses equip apprentices with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen field, ensuring a well-rounded skill set.

2. Enhanced Loyalty and Retention:
Apprentices are known for their strong loyalty and commitment to their employers. By providing them with valuable learning and growth opportunities, agencies cultivate a sense of belonging and dedication. This fosters a mutually beneficial relationship, resulting in increased staff retention and a stable workforce.

3. Favourable Funding Options:
Funding apprenticeships is often more accessible than anticipated. Most employers only contribute 5% towards the training and assessment costs, with the remaining amount covered by government funding up to a predetermined maximum. Companies subject to the apprenticeship levy (those with a wage roll of £3 million or more) can leverage their funds by utilising a 10% top-up.

4. Relief from Employer’s National Insurance Contributions:
For apprentices under the age of 25 enrolled in approved UK government apprenticeship standards, employers are exempt from paying employer’s national insurance contributions. This financial relief serves as an additional incentive to hire and support young apprentices.

5. Additional Support for Young Apprentices:
Employers have the opportunity to receive financial support of up to £1,000 to assist with apprenticeship expenses when hiring individuals aged between 16 and 18. This support demonstrates the commitment to nurturing young talent and encourages agencies to invest in their future.

Embrace the Journey:
Remember, we all have humble beginnings. National Apprenticeship Week reminds us of the importance of giving aspiring professionals a chance to grow. By providing apprenticeships, agencies unlock potential, bridge skills gaps, and contribute to the development of a resilient and thriving industry.
